Octopus — Document Brown   Ink Review # 268   Ink:  Document Brown Series:  Dokumenthus (Document) Brand:  Octopus Country:  Manual check needed Type:  Pigment (Document) Availability:  30 ml bottles.  Pens Used:  Pilot Kakuno EF,  Kaweco Sport (EF/F/M/B/ stub 1.1) Description After testing many Octopus Write and Draw inks, I thought I’d test one of their document inks. This series is comprised of 9 inks. The ink behaved flawlessly with all nibs. There was a bit of feedback only with Kaweco EF & F. The ink then spread with M and broader nibs, especially on copy paper. But it was quite well-behaved with F and finer nibs. I didn’t test it with a flex nib as I didn’t find it pertinent for this type of ink. The color is reddish-brown, kind of flat. I like my browns darker and greyer. The price is more expensive compared to the Write & Draw series, and Document inks by De Atramentis and Rohrer and Klingner.  Cleaning is a pa...

Akkerman — Dutch Masters No. 5 Israel’s Zeeblauw — Ink Review #267

Akkerman —  Dutch Masters -  No. 5, Israel’s Zeeblauw   Ink Review # 267   Ink:  No. 5, Israel’s Zeeblauw Series:  Dutch Masters Brand:  Akkerman Country:  Netherlands Availability:  120 ml bottles. Not easily availble outside of Europe.  Pens Used:  Pilot F3A bouncy, Kaweco Sport (EF/F/M/B/ stub 1.1) Description I decided to use the rest of my 2022 sample from a blind test on the FPGeeks website for this review. I didn’t foresee having my Ink Miser spill onto Iroful mid-review, or losing the few drops of the precious ink left, when I syringed it with too much force into the convertor. However, I persisted and finished this review. It’s a well-lubricated, dark turquoise from the Akkerman Dutch Masters series, an homage to the Dutch painter Jozef Israëls, known for his seascape paintings. While’s Israëls painted many beach scenes, I didn’t find this blue in many of his paintings. I’ve added written samples I did on unknown papers in ...

Jacques Herbin — Couleurs de Paris Bistro Parisien — Ink Review #266

Jacques Herbin — Bistro Parisien   Ink Review # 266   Ink:  Bistro Parisien Series:  Couleurs de Paris (Colors of Paris) Brand:  Jacques Herbin Country:  France Availability:  10 ml, 30 ml bottles.  Pens Used:  Osmiroid Copperplate EEF flex, Lamy Safari (EF, F, M, B, 1.1) Description This is one of three new inks added to the  Couleurs de Paris  collection.  It’s a tribute to the Parisian bistros. I got my sample from Fountainfeder in Germany.  With a dry pen it’s a lovely, luminous red, with a wet pen it is a lovely red-black with gorgeous shading. It has no water resistance. It made my Osmiroid nib sing; however, with Lamy nibs the lubrication was slightly below-average to excellent, depending on the nib size. This ink has become one of my favorites for artwork and sketching. The range of tones I can extract from it is endless. Chroma Writing Samples photos LED and sunlight Translations from other languages are provided ...
