De Atramentis — Artist - Dark Red   Ink Review #  34   Originally posted on FPN:  Apr 30, 2022   Ink:  Artist Dark Red Series:  Artist Brand:  De Atramentis Type:  Pigment ink Country:  Germany Availability:  50 ml bottles Pens Used:  Jinhao 450, (fude/ M), Ahab flex Description Artist inks are made with nanoparticles and are intended for painting and drawing with fountain pens and brushes. The inks are lightfast and waterproof. However, when I contacted De Atramentis, they told me that the Document inks are more lightfast than the Artist line.  When I was preparing my swatches, I thought the Document and Artist inks looked the same. The Midori comparison shows that Document Dark Red is slightly lighter. They also told me that Document and Artist inks can be mixed interchangeably. Dry time on Tomoe River 68 gsm paper is very long, as you can see below. But it is acceptable on Rhodia (45 seconds). If the paper is absorbent,...

Kakimori — Po   Ink Review # 33   Originally posted on FPN:  Apr 22, 2022   Ink:  Po Type:  Pigment ink Brand:  Kakimori Country:  Japan Availability:  35 ml bottles Pens Used:  Lamy Safari B, Kanwrite ultra-flex Description This is a mini review. In a nutshell: It’s good with M nibs and above. Below-average lubrication with F nibs and below. Long dry times, nice shading, beautiful bottle. According to Kakimori: " A colour tucked away in our hearts. Po is the way we blush when falling in love; the warmth of a face admired from afar ."  The ink window shows off a lovely bright red, contrasting the charcoal Lamy Safari. This is an eye-searing bright red-salmon. The color changes depending on pen and paper combination. On absorbent paper the color is a pale salmon. This is a good ink for markups, editing, or short notes. But I doubt if anyone would like to receive a long letter with this color, unless you favor eye-searing in...

Ink Institute — Tamshui-Xinyi Line   Ink Review # 32   Originally posted on FPN:  Apr 21, 2022   Ink:  Tamshui-Xinyi Line Brand:  Ink Institute Country:  Taiwan. Availability:  Only in 30 ml bottles Pens Used:  Jinhao 450 (M, fude), Lamy Safari F  Description This series is a celebration of the Taipei metro. The color represents the red of the Tamshui-Xinyi Line on the metro map. I really like this one. It’s spot on what I like in a red. It looks spectacular with a wide fude nib.  The ink has slightly below-average lubrication and needed to be cajoled with a #6 fude nib. But with the other nibs I tested, it had no problems. Though don't expect Doyou-style lubrication. I would say it has restrained lubrication. Dry time is alright with F nibs, but with a fude nib, it took its sweet time to dry, which is not a surprise.  It has absolutely no water resistance. Not the best ink to write your shopping list/love letters on a rainy da...

According to their website:  Kurun, depicts the dance of a vine's curling tendrils. A green that captures both vitality and a sense of calm. Packaging: They have a wide range of pigment inks, which are all waterproof. The bottles are truly beautiful and solid with a big opening and minimal packaging which embodies their sustainability motto.  First off, there’s a warning note in the packaging about clogging. It reminds me of Super5 inks, which...
