De Atramentis — Artist Cyan   Ink Review #  52   Originally posted on FPN:  Mar 23, 2023   Ink:  Artist Cyan Series:  Artist Brand:  De Atramentis Country:  Germany Type:  Pigment ink Availability:  50 ml bottle. Pens Used:  Pilot Kakuno (EF/stub), Lamy Safari (EF, F, M, B), Kanwrite ultra-flex, Jinhao fude. Description This is another wet, permanent ink from De Atramentis. Its color is almost identical to that of the atrocious Document Cyan, but its behavior is a slight improvement. If you absolutely need to try Cyan, I recommend the Artist over the Document. In all honesty, I did not enjoy this ink, it has not much character. However, it's pretty to look at in a transparent pen. Note on pigment inks:  Pigmented fountain pen inks are best used in well-sealed pens that are easy to dismantle. Regular cleaning is advisable, and pen flush may be needed if water alone is not enough. Chroma Writing Samples Rhodia Rhodia was the...

De Atramentis — Artist Turquoise   Ink Review #  51   Originally posted on FPN:  Mar 20, 2023   Ink:  Artist Turquoise Series:  Artist Brand:  De Atramentis Country:  Germany Type:  Pigment ink Availability:  50 ml bottle. Pens Used:  Pilot Kakuno (EF), Lamy Safari (EF, F, M) Description As I had samples of both Document and Artist Turquoise, I decided to review them simultaneously. I cannot recommend this ink for everyday writing. I gave up after testing after nibs. This can be crowned as the king of ghosting and bleed-through on every single paper I used. Surprisingly, it was almost OK, on Mnemosyne. There was ghosting, and some bleed-through when I doodled on the corner of the page. But I only used a B nib so I don't know how it would have behaved with the other nibs.  I wondered whether, because it’s an “Artist” ink, it should be used for art and specific papers. That inspired me to do an experiment. As all Document an...

De Atramentis — Artist - Dark Red   Ink Review #  34   Originally posted on FPN:  Apr 30, 2022   Ink:  Artist Dark Red Series:  Artist Brand:  De Atramentis Type:  Pigment ink Country:  Germany Availability:  50 ml bottles Pens Used:  Jinhao 450, (fude/ M), Ahab flex Description Artist inks are made with nanoparticles and are intended for painting and drawing with fountain pens and brushes. The inks are lightfast and waterproof. However, when I contacted De Atramentis, they told me that the Document inks are more lightfast than the Artist line.  When I was preparing my swatches, I thought the Document and Artist inks looked the same. The Midori comparison shows that Document Dark Red is slightly lighter. They also told me that Document and Artist inks can be mixed interchangeably. Dry time on Tomoe River 68 gsm paper is very long, as you can see below. But it is acceptable on Rhodia (45 seconds). If the paper is absorbent,...
