De Atramentis Document Brown (Cartridge) — Ink Review #176

De Atramentis Document Brown (cartridge) Ink Review # 176 Originally posted on FPN: Mar 17, 2025 Ink:  De Atramentis Document Brown (cartridge) Brand:  De Atramentis Country:  Germany Availability:  International short cartridges, 45 ml bottles. Pens Used:  Pilot Kakuno, Lamy Safari (EF / F / M / B / Stub 1.1), Kanwrite with FPR ultra-flex nib. 🧾  Description I was inspired by a video on six best brown inks for artists to test this ink. I extracted the ink from the cartridges and filled the Safari. The first day, ink was slightly sluggish, and lubrication was below average. The second day the flow was better, and the lubrication excellent. The same was true for the Kanwrite Desire with the Ultraflex FPR nib. It made a Pilot Kakuno scratchy nib sing. I liked it so much that I am at my fourth cartridge now. If I were to buy a bottle, though, I would go for Document Sepia or maybe one of the Octopus inks. It was amazing on copy paper; even an ultra-wet...

Graf von Faber-Castell Stone Grey (Cartridge) — Ink Review #136

Graf von Faber-Castell Stone Grey (cartridge)   Ink Review #  136   Originally posted on FPN:  Jul 24, 2024   Ink:  Stone Grey (cartridge) Brand:  Graf von Faber-Castell Country:  Germany Availability:  Cartridges, 75 ml bottles. Pens Used:  Kaweco (EF/F/M/B), Jinhao 450 fude nib, Osmiroid Copperplate nib.  Description This was a tough ink review. My initial experience with the cartridge was very unpleasant. I couldn’t make the ink flow in my Kaweco or Osmiroid (which doesn’t like dry inks), but it worked well in the Jinhao 450. I had to use two cartridges as one burst. So I checked several reviews and was surprised that they described it as a saturated, wet and well-lubricated grey ink. So, I took a third cartridge and syringed the ink into a Lamy Safari convertor to test it for an extra week or so. The experience was very different and pleasant. I used it mostly for sketching, as the written review had already  been done. How...

Kaweco Paradise Blue (Cartridge) — Ink Review #129

Kaweco Paradise Blue (cartridge)   Ink Review #  129   Originally posted on FPN:  Jun 3, 2024   Ink:  Paradise Blue (cartridge) Brand:  Kaweco Country:  Germany Availability:  50 ml bottles, 30 ml (discontinued), cartridges. Pens Used:  Kaweco (Reverse  EF, EF, F, M, B, BB), Kanwrite Desire with an Ahab semi-flex nib. Description This is a happy turquoise or light teal. It doesn’t like copy paper. Dry times are on the longer side, and the ink is water resistant. I enjoyed it most with  European  F nibs upwards. Chroma Writing Samples I used the reverse side of an EF nib to emulate a UEF line and show the finest line it could produce. The Kaweco nib-and-ink combination wasn’t suitable for reverse writing.   J Herbin — Éclat de Saphir (Cartridge)   Ink Review #  120   Originally posted on FPN:  Mar 27, 2024   Ink:  Éclat de Saphir (Cartridge) Brand:  J Herbin Country:  France Availability:  Cartridges, 10 ml, 30 ml bottles. Pens Used:  Kaweco (EF/F/M/B, BB) Description Thanks to @Lithium466 for the cartridge. It’s difficult to review an ink which leaves you indifferent when writing with it. However, I truly enjoyed drawing and doing washes with it. It’s a happy blue. Like most Herbin inks, it doesn’t like copy paper. I didn’t bother to ink up a flex nib for this one, and @LizEf has done an excellent review of this ink with a Japanese EF nib.
