Jinchen Sea Color / 海色 (Hǎi sè) — Ink Review #258

Image
Jinchen  — Sea Color /  海色 Hǎi sè     Ink Review # 258   --- 🧾 Description   Ink:  Sea Color /  海色 Hǎi sè  Brand:  Jinchen Country:  China Bottle size:  18 ml Pens Used:  Kaweco Sport Navy (EF, F, M, B, BB, 1.1, 1.9), Hongdian Forest Gold Fude, Ahab with a FPR ultra-flex nib.   This was another impulse buy. The ink is a lovely light petrol blue with a hint of pink/red chromo-shading with BB, 1.9 stub and fude nibs on most papers.   The ink is wet, with acceptable but below average lubrication. Despite its wetness it struggled with the flex nib and the colour became more saturated and all chromo-shading effects disappeared.    I believe this ink could shine with brush pens.    I most enjoyed drawing with it and ink washes were a dream.    Overall, an ok ink if you’re into calligraphy or drawing, but if you write mostly with F nibs and finer, you won’t enjoy it.  --- ...

Jinchen Máo Shè / 茅舍 — Thatched Cottage — Ink Review #256

Jinchen  茅舍  — Máo shè. “Thatched Cottage”   Ink Review # 256     --- 🧾 Description   Ink:  Máo shè Brand:  Jinchen Country:  China Bottle size:  18 ml bottles from AliExpress or similar outlets. Pens Used:  Majohn C4 with Majohn EF flex nib, Kaweco (EF/F/M/B/BB, stub 1.1, 1.9), Hongdian Forest, Fude nib.   This is a legible tan colour. Ink is watery with below average lubrication. However, the writing experience improves with F and above, but don’t expect Sailor Doyou smoothness.   The chromo-shading effect is only visible with flex, fude and stub 1.9 on all papers, except on Hammermill. It shows best with the flex nib, which basically pours a blob of ink, and it’ll take several long minutes to dry. The downside besides that is that you’ll have show-through and bleed-through on Rhodia and Iroful in areas with the heaviest ink application.    The ink work fine on copy paper with most nibs, but you’ll have all ki...

Jinchen Xi Xia (Sunset Glow) /  夕霞 Ink Review # 253   Originally posted on FPN: June 27, 2026   --- 🧾  Description   Ink:  Xi Xia (Sunset Glow) Brand:  Jinchen Country:  China Colour:  Orange Bottles:  18 ml bottles from AliExpress or similar outlets.  Pens Used:  Hongdian Forest EF, fude, Lamy (EF/F/M/B/ stub 1.1), Noodler’s Nib creeper fitted with a Waterman W2 flex nib.      Jinchen Xi Xia is an orange-peach ink with supposed chromo-shading properties. It is wet and watery with below-average lubrication. With the Hongdian it was atrocious. With the Lamy Safari, the experience was OK depending on the nib, but I could feel some feedback. With the Jinhao x159, it was atrocious. However, after being left in the pen for a few days, it was acceptable, but only on copy paper.    The colour, while pale, is legible. Dry times are moderately long. It has no water resistance. There is some ghosting and ...
