Jinchen Sea Color / 海色 (Hǎi sè) — Ink Review #258

Image
Jinchen  — Sea Color /  海色 Hǎi sè     Ink Review # 258   --- 🧾 Description   Ink:  Sea Color /  海色 Hǎi sè  Brand:  Jinchen Country:  China Bottle size:  18 ml Pens Used:  Kaweco Sport Navy (EF, F, M, B, BB, 1.1, 1.9), Hongdian Forest Gold Fude, Ahab with a FPR ultra-flex nib.   This was another impulse buy. The ink is a lovely light petrol blue with a hint of pink/red chromo-shading with BB, 1.9 stub and fude nibs on most papers.   The ink is wet, with acceptable but below average lubrication. Despite its wetness it struggled with the flex nib and the colour became more saturated and all chromo-shading effects disappeared.    I believe this ink could shine with brush pens.    I most enjoyed drawing with it and ink washes were a dream.    Overall, an ok ink if you’re into calligraphy or drawing, but if you write mostly with F nibs and finer, you won’t enjoy it.  --- ...

Taccia Hokusai-fukakihanada   Ink Review # 246 Originally posted on FPN:  May 20, 2026 --- 🧾  Description   Ink:  Fukaki-hanada  Brand:  Taccia  Ukiyo-e  series.  Availability:   40 ml bottles. Country:  Japan Pens Used:  Pilot Kakuno EF, Lamy (EF/F/M/B/ stub 1.1), Karas Customs with a FPnibs flex with ebonite feed.    What’s in a name?    Ukiyo-e  art was a genre of woodblock printing and painting that flourished in Japan in the Edo period (1603–1868).    This ink is inspired by the great Japanese printmaker Hokusai (1760–1849), specifically the gorgeous blue of  Kajikazawa in Kai Province  one of his Thirty -six Views of Mount Fuji  print s .  The name Fukaki-hanada translates roughly to deep hanada, with fukaki meaning deep and hanada referring to a traditional Japanese indigo-blue color name.    While the colour is not my type, after reviewin...

Jacques Herbin Bleu Azur — Ink Review #234

Jacques Herbin Bleu Azur   Ink Review # 234   Originally posted on FPN: March 18, 2026   ---   🧾  Description   Ink:  Bleu Azur Brand:  Jacques Herbin Country:  France Available:  10/30 ml bottles, and cartridges. Pens Used:  Pilot F3A EF, Lamy (EF/F/M/B/ stub 1.1), Kanwrite Desire As of this date, all J Herbin inks are marketed as Jacques Herbin.    Bleu Azur is a light, bright turquoise. It has decent lubrication and was pleasant with most nibs. I preferred it with F, M, and B.    It would not be legible with Japanese and Western EF nibs, as it’s pale and harsh under some lights (normally, with finer nibs, lines are darker, but not in this case).   It needs a wet pen, soft, wide nib, and white paper to shine.   It was most pleasant on white paper, especially Iroful and Tomoe River 68gsm.    It has no water resistance and is awful on copy paper.    If I were to choose one tu...
