Noodler's — Ottoman Rose   Ink Review # 14   Originally posted on FPN:  Jun 26, 2021   Ink:  Ottoman Rose Brand:  Noodler's Country:  USA Availability:  3 oz, 90 ml bottles.  Pens Used:  Pilot Metropolitan F, Jinhao 450 fude  Description This is one of the earliest inks I bought. It can handle Jinhao 450 fude nibs with no problem and never dries out. I do a lot of editing, and I enjoyed jotting notes and doodling with an F nib. The only downside is that dry-times are high with wet pens on non-absorbent papers.  This can easily be mitigated with finer nibs and absorbent paper, obviously. Suffice to say, if you’re a lefty over-writer who likes wide nibs, wet pens and water-resistant paper and writes from right to left, you’re in trouble! So, what makes this ink special, besides it being very well behaved, wet, lubricated, and vibrant? The name. The name?! Indeed. The artwork is a scene from a harem. The name Ottoman Rose rem...

Super5 — Australia   Ink Review # 13   Originally posted on FPN:  Jun 20, 2021   Ink:  Australia Type:  Pigment ink Brand:  Super5 Country:  Germany Availability:  Only in 30 ml bottles. Pens Used:  Lamy Safari B or reverse B. Description Pigment inks made by Rohrer and Klingner fo Papierlabor. They are lightfast and waterproof and designed for sketching, just like the sketchINKs. The naming of this line is a bit haphazard; you can judge for yourself: Atlantic Australia Darmstadt Delhi Dublin Frankfurt   They also have a line of pens that have a very good seal, and the inks don't dry out from what I've read. In my experience, they are a shade darker than their sketchINK counterparts. Australia is no exception.  It is a nice wet ink. The color reminds me of wine. Dry time is the same as sketchINK inks. This means that if you use B, flex or wet nibs and coated papers, the dry time will be 30 seconds or more. So, if dry time is im...

Rohrer & Klingner — sketchINK® Frieda   Ink Review # 12   Originally posted on FPN:  Jun 20, 2021   Ink:  Frieda Type: Pigment ink Series:  sketchINK® Brand:  Rohrer & Klingner Country:  Germany Availability:  50 ml bottles.  Pens Used: Noodler’s Ahab semi-flex   Description These pigmented inks, designed for sketching, are purported to be both lightfast and waterproof. Like other inks of this series, Frieda is wet. Dry time is on the longer side; it's for sketching, after all. For writing, I prefer this series with a modern flex nib, where I get more character out of the ink. However, it is imperative to use pens with a good seal; otherwise, you’ll have start-up issues.   I have had another one of this series in a Pilot Varsity for almost a year. The only times I had hard starts were when the pen was kept nib side up. However, in a Lamy Safari, an Ahab and many other pens, it dried up when not used regularly. Not...
