The Polar series consists of Black, Brown, Green, Blue, Purple, Blood Falls and now Polar Krill. Polar inks were originally conceived so that they could be used in freezing temperatures. However, they had a lot of flow issues and were reformulated so that the inks turn into slush rather than freeze solid outdoors.  While I live in a relatively cold area, I have not found the need to ever use a fountain pen or pen for that matter outdoors. Frankly, I doubt if I can hold a pen in -30°C /-22°F with a gigantic mitt, and I don't see the point of getting frostbite to prove a point. Polar Blue and Purple are similar in behavi...

Noodler's — Tsvetayeva   Ink Review # 29   Originally posted on FPN:  Mar 15, 2022   Ink:  Tsvetayeva Series:  Russian Series Type:  Bulletproof Brand:  Noodler's Country:  USA Availability:  90 ml bottles – More expensive than traditional Noodler’s inks. Pens Used:  Ahab semi-flex, Jinhao 450 fude Description A rich red ink, an homage to the great Russian poetess Marina Tsvetayeva. Noodler’s uses an alternative spelling for Tsvetaeva. Tsvetayeva’s poetry reads like punctuated bullet shots: an explosion of emotions, imagery, and sounds. She once famously said, “Next time I will be born not on a planet, but on a comet!” Some of her poetry is universal: To love a country that does not love you, to be a stranger in exile and in exile in your own country.  You can read more about her tragic life here:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marina_Tsvetaeva Ink Review I thought I had found my dream, bulletproof red. But for some reason...

Noodler's — House Divided   Ink Review # 28   Originally posted on FPN:  Mar 3, 2022   Ink:  House Divided Type:  Partially bulletproof Brand:  Noodler's Country:  USA Availability:  Discontinued. Pens Used:  Kanwrite Desire ultra-flex nib, Jinhao 450 fude nib Description A very unusual-looking ink, hovering between dull purple and brown-grey-black. The writing experience is quite pleasant. The ink is wet, well-lubricated, and fast-drying. I wouldn't recommend it for a very wet pen, though. Rinsing was easy. However, the pink-red component might stick around a bit like most pink and red inks, bulletproof or not. But overall, it is much easier to clean than Sailor Jentle Grenade, Herbin Rose Cyclamen and Sheaffer Skrip red. Writing Samples Midori Tomoe River 68 gsm Note:  Tomoe River used here is 68 gsm, not the thinner 52 gsm version commonly referenced in reviews. Noodler's — Pasternak   Ink Review # 27   Originally posted on FPN:  Jan 5, 2022   Ink:  Pasternak  Series:  Russian Series Type:  Bulletproof Brand:  Noodler's Country:  USA Availability:  3 oz, 90 ml bottles – Russian series inks are more expensive than Noodler’s normal lineup.  Pens Used:  TWSBI Go stub, Jinhao 450 (M, fude), No-name Chinese pen (EF, F) Description A complex grey, an homage to the great Russian poet and writer Boris Pasternak. In its early iteration, this ink was purple.  You can find more about the author of Dr. Zhivago here:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boris_Pasternak Ink This is a dream ink for an occasional sketcher on good fountain pen paper. The ink is wetter than the other Russian inks.  It embraced copy paper like a long-lost lover, never to let go. I preferred it most in my Jinhao with an M nib. I enjoyed it less with EF/F nibs, though truth to be told, I'm not a fan of F line...
