Description

This is a limited edition ink and it comes in special bottles.

I had a chance to blind test this limited-edition ink on the FPGeeks website.

It's great fun and a privilege to test inks in this fashion. It's you and the ink: no preconceived idea about the brand, the country or the name.

It’s a rich dark blue, wet and well lubricated. It’s supposed to trigger deep thoughts in the ink user, close to midnight! As I live in the city and rarely can observe the stars, and I am never awake at midnight, I guess this ink is not for me. 😉

For those who like well-behaved inks and don’t tolerate any form of rebellion, this ink is not one of the best. I even managed to create feathering on Tomoe River 68 gsm paper, though the feed was super-primed and it never happened again:

And some sheen on the same paper:

It ghosted and bled through on the Maruman Mnemosyne paper, which is a feat in itself.

Let’s reach for the midnight skies.

Mystery ink #49 is this ink.

Tomoe River 68 gsm

Note: Tomoe River used here is 68 gsm, not the thinner 52 gsm version commonly referenced in reviews.

Cheap paper

Some bleeding ghosts on thin cheap paper. 👻

Water Test

When I tried to dry the paper with a paper towel, it became this mess.

Obviously, the paper wasn't ink-friendly. The brown ink is Rohrer & Klingner Sepia.

Ink Characteristics

·      What I liked: Easy to clean, nice wet flow, nice faint sheen on some papers.
·      What I didn’t like: There are too many inks in this shade. Some bad behavior.
·      Shading: Non-existent.
·      Ghosting: Yes, on Maruman and cheap paper.
·      Bleed through: Same as above.
·      Flow Rate: Wet.
·      Lubrication: Nice.
·      Nib Dry-out: Not noticed.
·      Start-up: No problem.
·      Saturation: Very saturated.
·      Shading Potential: Only with fude nibs on select papers.
·      Sheen: Yes.
·      Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: Only once. On cheap paper probably.
·      Nib Creep / “Crud”: No.
·      Staining (pen): No.
·      Clogging: No.
·      Cleaning: Very easy.
·      Water resistance: Good, but you might have a mess.
