Description

It is a bulletproof/fluorescent, muted purple ink, belonging to the Russian series. It's more expensive than traditional Noodler's inks.

A bit about the composer:

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (7 May 1840–6 November 1893) was a famous Russian composer, well known for his ballets Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, his six symphonies, his piano concertos, and his violin concerto. You can find more about him here:

I could go on and on about Tchaikovsky, but this is an ink review after all, and to paraphrase a movie quote, “I doubt this ink would make classical music lovers fans of fountain pens or ink lovers fans of Tchaikovsky's music.” 😅

I'm not sure why Mr. Tardif used this muted purple to represent Tchaikovsky. Like most bulletproof inks it doesn't shade and like most fluorescent inks, it's well-behaved and easy to clean. Though it can and will stain demonstrators. A touch of Sailor Doyou or Noodler's Red Eel can clean it, if you insist on using this ink with a transparent section 😜

I love muted purples. There’s a lovely silver haze around the edges on this paper.

Ink Characteristics

·      What I liked: Wet ink, muted purple, with a silver haze on some papers, well-behaved.
·      What I did not like: Nothing much.
·      Shading: Only with a fude nib.
·      Ghosting: Yes.
·      Bleed through: Same as above.
·      Flow Rate: Excellent.
·      Lubrication: Excellent.
·      Nib Dry-out: None.
·      Start-up: None.
·      Saturation: Muted.
·      Shading Potential: You can’t have it all.
·      Sheen: None.
·      Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: Didn’t notice.
·      Nib Creep / “Crud”: No.
·      Staining (pen): It’s a purple ink, so it can stain. Though a bit of Sailor Doyou, Noodle's Red Eel or pen flush will clean it up.
·      Clogging: No.
·      Cleaning: Surprisingly very easy.
·      Water resistance: Excellent.

It’s viscous and reminds me of Kung Te-Cheng or Polar Black.  This ink is paper and pen specific.  The ink can stain transparent sections or body, but it can be cleaned with a combination of elbow-grease and pen flush.  The woolly-line effect happens with a wet, flexed Kanwrite. I got my sample from Fountainfeder in Germany.  With a dry pen it’s a lovely, luminous red, with a wet pen it is a lovely red-black with gorgeous shading. It has no water resistance. It made my Osmiroid nib sing; however, with Lamy nibs the lubrication was slightly below-average to excellent, depending on the nib size.
