🧾 Description

Ink: Green Eagle

Brand: Octopus Write & Draw

Country: Germany

Bottle size: 50 ml

Pens Used: Osmiroid Copperplate EEF flex, Lamy (EF/F/M/B/ stub 1.1)

Octopus Write & Draw inks are pigment inks, waterproof and lightfast. There are 48 of them in all.

This is the last of the 4 greens by Octopus. I prefer this to Green Panda: It has much better lubrication and the flow is average, and the colour is less bright.

My sample was old and past the two-year expiry date. After soaking and flushing the pen, an unpleasant-looking blob of ink fell into the sink. I contacted Octopus to ask whether this was normal. They explained that the issue was likely related to the preservative rather than the ink itself, and that they had since changed that component. They even offered to exchange the bottle, which was very generous. In my case, it wasn’t necessary, as I only had a sample, but the offer itself says a lot about their transparency and customer service.

To cut a long story short, I had to soak the pen multiple times in a cleaning solution and let the ultrasonic cleaner shake, rattle, and roll the pigments loose. The operation took approximately a day and a half.

To put this into perspective, I’ve had hydrophilic inks with persistent pink dyes that have taken longer to clean.  :)

In conclusion, you understand why we insist to use a fountain pen with a good seal, ideally one that can be dismantled with pigment inks.

Pigment Ink Note: Pigmented fountain pen inks are best used in well-sealed pens that are easy to dismantle. Some colours clean out easily, while others may need pen flush if water alone is not enough.

 💬 Closing

This is an excellent waterproof ink by Octopus with some caveats. Let it dry, and you’ll suffer; use it regularly in a well-sealed pen, and you’ll be happy.

While no fountain pens were harmed in preparing this review, the reviewer groaned cleaning this pen. ;)

Please don’t hesitate to share your experience, writing samples, or any other comments — the more the merrier. :)
