Franklin Christoph — Black Cherry   Ink Review # 21   Originally posted on FPN:  Dec 11, 2021   Ink:  Black Cherry Brand:  Franklin Christoph Availability:  1 oz / 2 oz (28 ml / 56 ml) bottles. Pens Used:  Jinhao 450 (M, fude), Rotring M Description This ink may look brown, purple, or both, depending on the paper, angle, and nib. With a wide fude nib, the color is particularly rich. With an M nib, the shading is less pronounced and the color hovers between purple and brown. The ink is very wet. Dry times on Tomoe River 68 gsm were surprisingly decent with normal writing, but heavier ink deposits took much longer to dry. If you live outside the US and don't plan to buy a pen from them, you'd better forget about it. Chroma Writing Samples Mystery ink 39 refers to this ink. Tomoe River 68 gsm Note:  Tomoe River used here is 68 gsm, not the thinner 52 gsm version commonly referenced in reviews. However, look at the richness and beauty of this ink...

Noodler's — Pushkin   Ink Review # 20   Originally posted on FPN:  Aug 8, 2021   Ink:  Pushkin Series:  Russian Series Type:  Bulletproof Brand:  Noodler's Country:  USA Availability:  Only in 90 ml bottles. Russian series inks are more expensive than the normal lineup.  Pens Used:   Noodler’s Ahab semi-flex, Lamy Safari B, Pilot Metro F, Kanwrite Desire ultra-flex Description It’s an agreeable muted green-blue. While it doesn’t capture the flamboyance of Alexander Pushkin, it encapsulates the complexities and nuances of the Russian spirit.  Pushkin is considered the father of modern Russian literature. Most of his works are poetry. He was killed in a duel at age 37.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Pushkin I had difficulties with this ink. With the Ahab, it had flow issues and particularly disliked being flexed. However, with a light touch the pen glided effortlessly. Compared to similar Noodler’s inks, ...

Ink Institute - Cat at Noon   Ink Review # 19   Originally posted on FPN:  Jul 20, 2021   Ink:  Cat at Noon Brand:  Ink Institute Country:  Taiwan Availability:  Only in 30 ml bottles Pens Used:  Noodler’s Ahab semi-flex, Lamy Safari B   Description I got this ink on a whim. I have nothing to compare it with. It's very pale, almost transparent pink. The bright color was a drop of ink that never got absorbed by the paper. This ink has flow issues. Lamy did not like it; I had to prime it often. For Ahab, after a couple of days, it was acceptable. The writing experience was akin to writing with water. I use quite a bit of iron gall inks, Essri is Sailor Doyou compared to this one.  😄 The nib got caught in the paper fibers due to lack of lubrication. Pity. The color is a lovely, almost golden orange-salmon. The one good experience I had was sketching, when there was ink flow. This color would probably be very nice in a room but not for...

Noodler's — Recreant Rhinoceros (RINO)   Ink Review # 18   Originally posted on FPN:  Jul 18, 2021   Ink:  Recreant Rhinoceros (RINO) Type:  Bulletproof Brand:  Noodler's Country:  USA Availability:  Discontinued Pens Used:  Noodler’s Ahab / Lamy Safari B/ Reverse B Description The name of this ink is intended to provoke. A marketing gimmick. Pity, as the ink is complex enough to stand on its own. But we’re not here to debate politics but to enjoy the creativity and diversity of inks. I was attracted to it because of its chameleon quality. It writes grey-black and dries into a green-teal, depending on the paper. It is wet, with excellent lubrication and very water-resistant.  I don’t have any ink to compare with. The wet ink is grey-black and dries to different shades of the green-teal spectrum.
