De Atramentis — Artist Turquoise   Ink Review #  51   Originally posted on FPN:  Mar 20, 2023   Ink:  Artist Turquoise Series:  Artist Brand:  De Atramentis Country:  Germany Type:  Pigment ink Availability:  50 ml bottle. Pens Used:  Pilot Kakuno (EF), Lamy Safari (EF, F, M) Description As I had samples of both Document and Artist Turquoise, I decided to review them simultaneously. I cannot recommend this ink for everyday writing. I gave up after testing after nibs. This can be crowned as the king of ghosting and bleed-through on every single paper I used. Surprisingly, it was almost OK, on Mnemosyne. There was ghosting, and some bleed-through when I doodled on the corner of the page. But I only used a B nib so I don't know how it would have behaved with the other nibs.  I wondered whether, because it’s an “Artist” ink, it should be used for art and specific papers. That inspired me to do an experiment. As all Document an...

De Atramentis — Document Turquoise   Ink Review #  50   Originally posted on FPN:  Mar 18, 2023   Ink:  Turquoise Series:  Document Brand:  De Atramentis Country:  Germany Type:  Pigment ink Availability:  45 ml bottles. Pens Used:  Pilot Kakuno (EF /Stub) Lamy Safari (EF, F, M, B) / Jinaho 450 with an ultra-flex nib/ and fude nib Description This review is followed by its Artist sibling. If you were to choose one for writing purposes, get a sample of this one only. I am not enamored by it. I don't know if it's the color, its behavior, or simply its lack of character. Or maybe I'm inky-saturated. It is a decent Document ink, too wet with wet/wide nib combos. With a fude nib (bent Chinese /Japanese nibs) it wrote like flip-flops on ice. This ink is best for coated paper, with EF – B nibs and dry pens. Don't use it with an ebonite feed. Color is slightly lighter than Artist Turquoise, and the ink is less wet. Document and Artist ...

Noodler's — Tchaikovsky   Ink Review #  49   Originally posted on FPN:  Mar 13, 2023   Ink:  Tchaikovsky Series:  Russian Series Type:  Bulletproof Brand:  Noodler's Country:  USA Availability:  3 oz/ 90 ml bottles Pens Used:  Pilot Kakuno (EF /stub), Lamy Safari (EF, F, M, B), Jinhao 450 with an ultra-flex and fude nib.  Description It is a bulletproof/fluorescent, muted purple ink, belonging to the Russian series. It's more expensive than traditional Noodler's inks. A bit about the composer: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (7 May 1840–6 November 1893) was a famous Russian composer, well known for his ballets  Swan Lake  and  The Nutcracker , his six symphonies, his piano concertos, and his violin concerto. You can find more about him here:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyotr_Ilyich_Tchaikovsky I could go on and on about Tchaikovsky, but this is an ink review after all, and to paraphrase a movie quote, “I do...

J Herbin — Vert de Gris   Ink Review #  48   Originally posted on FPN:  Mar 4, 2023   Ink:  Vert de Gris Brand:  J Herbin Country:  France Availability:  10 ml / 30 ml bottles/ cartridges. Pens Used:  Pilot Elite (EF), Osmiroid Copperplate semi-flex UEF, Lamy Safari (EF, F, M, B), Kanwrite ultra-flex, Jinhao 450 fude Description A beautiful verdigris ink, remarkably close to the actual color of verdigris on statues. The ink is wet. The lubrication is pen-dependent and can vary from below average to average. It doesn’t like copy paper and has beautiful shading.  Chroma Writing Samples Funnily enough, the Osmiroid Copperplate nib is finer than the Japanese EF. Rhodia Midori Tomoe River 68 gsm Note:  Tomoe River used here is 68 gsm, not the thinner 52 gsm version commonly referenced in reviews. Comparison Water Test It has acceptable water resistance. Artwork A few sketches of ancient "Minionese" statues discovered recently, somew...
