Octopus Fluids Write & Draw — Fox Grey   Ink Review #  88   Originally posted on FPN:  Oct 4, 2023   Ink:  Fox Grey Series:  Write & Draw Brand:  Octopus Country:  Germany Type:  Pigment ink Availability:  50 ml bottles. Pens Used:  Pilot Kakuno EF, Stub, Kaweco Sport (EF/F/M/B), Kanwrite with an Ahab nib Description There’s something about Octopus  Write and Draw  series. They have been a breath of fresh air, in the permanent ink world. Fox Grey isn't any different. It even makes the scratchy Kakuno EF a pleasure to write with. The color is pleasing, a warmish blue-grey.   It is a wet ink and has excellent lubrication with subtle shading. It can be used with dry pens on copy paper with EF-M nibs with minimial ghosting.  Note on Octopus Write & Draw inks: These are pigmented fountain pen inks, so they are best used in well-sealed pens that are easy to dismantle. Octopus describes t...

De Atramentis — Document Black Red   Ink Review #  87   Originally posted on FPN:  Sep 30, 2023   Ink:  Black Red Series:  Document Brand:  De Atramentis Country:  Germany Type:  Pigment ink Availability:  45 ml bottles. Pens Used:  Pilot Kakuno EF, Stub, Lamy Safari (EF, F, M, B, 1.1), Osmiroid Copperplate semi-flex nib Description I really wanted to like this ink, but it didn't sing for me. Before writing, I had to smudge a drop of ink to make sure it was the right color. That's when you have too many pens inked.  😀 But as you will see in scans, it's clearly a brownish-reddish ink that looks very elegant. The cleaning was a bit of a pain. I was really disappointed when I had smudging during the water test. That's not something I expected from a document ink. I got my sample from Goulet's. Note on pigment inks:  Pigmented fountain pen inks are best used in well-sealed pens that are easy to dismantle. Regular ...

Pens Used:  Pilot Kakuno EF/Stub, Kaweco Sport (EF/F/M/B), Osmiroid with a copperplate nib. Description This is a very well-behaved waterproof black ink. The more I used it, the more I enjoyed it. It’s well-lubricated, well-behaved and a lovely shiny black. If you’re looking for a waterproof black ink, this could fit the bill. Note on Octopus Write & Draw inks:  These are pigmented fountain pen inks, so they are best used in well-sealed pens that are easy to dismantle. Octopus describes them as waterproof and lightfast. Some colors clean out easily, while others may need pen flush if water alone is not enough. Octopus lists a two-year shelf life and notes ISO 12757-2 / DIN ISO 1414...

Noodler's — 1984   Ink Review #  85   Originally posted on FPN:  Sep 23, 2023   Ink:  1984  Series:  Regular lineup Brand:  Noodler's Country:  USA Availability:  3 oz, 90 ml bottles. Pens Used:  Pilot Kakuno (EF/Stub), Kaweco Sport (EF/F/M/B), Kanwrite with an Ahab nib Description 1984 is part of Noodler’s regular lineup and not one of the special edition inks previously released. It’s a fast-drying, cellulose-loving ink. It absolutely hates Tomoe River 68 gsm paper. It did a lot of unmentionable things to it, so beware Hammermill paper! What I noticed was that if the feed is primed, the ink will bleed through anything. However, if one “un-primes” the feed or lets the ink settle for a few days in the pen, it’ll work fine. Noodler’s has many bulletproof purples, which are better behaved than this one, such as Tchaikovsky or Polar Purple, to name a few. But then again, if you’re a fan of Orwell’s 1984, you can rein in this misbe...
