Taccia — Hiroshige Utagawa Ainezu   Ink Review #  132   Originally posted on FPN:  Jun 28, 2024   Ink:  Hiroshige Utagawa Ainezu Brand:  Taccia Country:  Japan Availability:  40 ml bottles. Pens Used:  Pilot Kakuno EF, Lamy Safari (EF, F, M, B, 1.1), Kanwrite with an Ahab nib Description This was the first ink in a five-ink blind test on the FPGeeks website.  It is one of the most intriguing blue-blacks I’ve ever tested, bordering on grey. The color is refined and elegant. However, it’s not for those people who love smooth, cushiony writing.  There’s a hint of turquoise in the chroma. Chroma Writing Samples The ink is titled as A, as it was a blind test: Rhodia Midori Tomoe River 68 gsm Hammermill 20 lb Photo Paper is Mnemosyne - Pen is Kanwrite with an Ahab nib. Rohrer & Klingner — Helianthus   Ink Review #  131   Originally posted on FPN:  Jun 19, 2024   Ink:  Helianthus Brand:  Rohrer & Klingner Country:  Germany Availability:  50 ml bottles. Pens Used:  Kaweco (Reverse EF, EF, F, M, B, BB), Conway Stewart 330 (Oblique-flex - very wet) Description Many thanks to @Lithium466 for the sample. The commas show that “or vice versa” is a brief aside. The dashes only give it stronger emphasis. It is not suitable for copy paper, unless you use UEF, or EF nibs. Cleaning was easy. I prefer this to J Herbin Bouton d’or. The colour is difficult to scan. The photo is closest to the real deal. Chroma Writing Samples Rhodia Midori Tomoe River 68 gsm Hammermill 20 lb Photo Comparison Water Test Left side 10 seconds under running water The writing and sketch was done with a glass nib, hence the thicker lines.   Faber-Castell — Turquoise   Ink Review #  130   Originally posted on FPN:  Jun 12, 2024   Ink:  Turquoise Brand:  Faber-Castell Country:  Germany Availability:  30 ml Pelikan-style bottles. Pens Used:  Pilot Kakuno EF, Lamy Safari (EF, F, M, B, 1.1), Noodler’s Ahab Description This is a very wet, light-blue-turquoise by Faber-Castell. It is a shading monster, with decent water resistance, an affordable price and a hint of sheen. It doesn’t like copy paper. Chroma Writing Samples It's difficult to scan, but this is not a Caribbean style turquoise. Rhodia Midori Tomoe River 68 gsm Hammermill 20 lb Photo On Midori under artificial light you might see a hint of reddish sheen. Pens Used:  Kaweco (Reverse  EF, EF, F, M, B, BB), Kanwrite Desire with an Ahab semi-flex nib. Description This is a happy turquoise or light teal. It doesn’t like copy paper. Dry times are on the longer side, and the ink is water resistant. I enjoyed it most with  European  F nibs upwards. Chroma Writing Samples I used the reverse side of an EF nib to emulate a UEF line and show the finest line it could produce. The Kaweco nib-and-ink combination wasn’t suitable for reverse writing. It's difficult to scan Rhodia Midori Tomoe River 68 gsm Hammermill 20 lb Photo This is closest to the colour I see.
